If you don’t think you can save someones life during an emergency situation think again. There is something called Hands on CPR short for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Never heard of it? Well here are the steps you would need to follow in order to properly apply CPR .

  1. Check to make sure the scene is safe, tap the person on the shoulder to see if they’re OK, and look for signs of rhythmic, normal breathing.
  2. Call 911 for assistance. If there’s no response from the victim when asked if he or she is OK, call 911, or ask a bystander to call for help.
  3. Perform hands-only CPR
  4. Kneel beside the person who needs help.
  5. Place the heel of one hand on the center of the chest.
  6. Place the heel of the other hand on top of the first hand, then lace your fingers together.
  7. Position your body so that your shoulders are directly over your hands, and keep your arms straight.
  8. Push hard, push fast. Use your body weight to help you administer compressions that are at least 2 inches deep and delivered at a rate of at least 100 compressions per minute. (Just be sure to let chest rise completely between comparisons.)
  9. Keep pushing. Continue hands-only CPR until you see obvious signs of life, like breathing, another trained responder or EMS professional can take over, you’re too exhausted to continue, and AED becomes available, or the scene becomes unsafe.

AED at Arsenal Technical High School are located Right across form the clinic in room 121, also in 122, and two are located in the gym. Nurse Amy Thompson in the teen clinic at Tech agrees that is important that students and staff knows how to do hands on CPR just in case they need to do it. It is recommended by American Heart Association.
